zigs and zags and jaimie

One thing that brings me a smile & brings me closer to Hawaii is having visitors!  One of the major perks of living in Las Vegas is that people from Hawaii are constantly coming to visit.  Sometimes that visit entails making a quick trip Downtown to catch up and eat some oxtail soup at the Cal.  Other times, visitors want to live it up and stay out all night on The Strip.  For me, the best visitors are the ones that stay as house guests… especially when the house guest is a bestie for the past twenty-or-so years!

I am so thrilled that my bestie, Jaimie Coloma, is coming to visit me next week!  The hardest part for me about being away from the islands is missing my family and friends.  Thank goodness for modern technology that helps us keep in touch.  For Jaimie and I, Voxer is our preferred method of communication.  We Voxer our way through the day… taking shopping trips together, reading books together, giving advice to one another.

Our latest shopping thrill was about a year ago when Target released their limited collection of Missoni for Target.  It was a four hundred piece collection filled with their iconic zig zags and other prints.  We put together our shopping lists prior to the launch & rushed to our respective Targets the morning of release day.  Of course, getting what we wanted did not only entail making one leisurely trip to Target.  Without making us sound like crazies, let’s just say that our next couple of months included lots of Target trips, trading, begging, and anything short of joining Missoni-anonymous groups.

Today I spent a portion of my afternoon lovingly putting together a Missoni bed for my bestie to have some zig zag dreams on.  She will be the first to sleep-bless these silly sheets that we both fought so hard to obtain.  She will certainly be the only one to sleep on that bed that fully appreciates the sheets.  Fittingly so, she is also sometimes the only one I feel that truly understands me in certain situations.  So, as I made the bed for Jaimie Coloma, I thought about all the colorful zigs and zags that life has brought us and how blessed I am that SHE’S COMING TO VISIT!!!!
